You don’t have to be the best to make a start and still have a great business.

In a world where everyone is telling you to be a thought leader or number 1 in your industry, this isn’t probably something you hear often.

In this short video, I explain what I mean by this and how this has anything to do with generating new leads.

You don’t have to be the best to have the best business. So what I mean by this, now, when I first started out in lead generation and also just digital marketing and web development, pretty much anytime I started out, I used to always, I guess look at people who I wanted to be like, or I guess, saw as competitors in a sense, and it used to dishearten me. I used to think, well, no one’s ever gonna wanna work with me because I’m not the best in the industry, surely they’re just gonna go to the best.

And I see this countlessly with people when it comes to generating leads on LinkedIn, they get really disheartened and they hit brick walls and they don’t proceed cause they get this like mindset issue where they feel that no one’s gonna wanna work with them because, why would they work with them when they can just work with, you know, the best. Now, the beautiful thing about LinkedIn and I guess business in general is, you don’t have to be the best to have the better business or the best business.

So let’s just take McDonald’s for example, they don’t make the best burgers in the world, but they have a fantastic business model. They run really efficient systems and they provide really efficient low cost meals, consistency, all this sort of stuff. They have a great business but they don’t by any means have the world’s best food. So that’s one example. And a small restaurant chain wouldn’t be able to compete with McDonald’s on that same level. But if we look at it from a lead generating perspective, a small restaurant could go out to someone who was heading to McDonald’s, hand them like a sample or something on their way there and divert that person to now work with them or give them their business.

So it’s very much the same on LinkedIn. But a lot of outbound lead generation, is about finding the right person at the right time and still being able to add a lot of great value to that person. So what I’m saying is, don’t get disheartened when you start looking at your competitors and thinking, Oh no, one’s ever gonna wanna work with me, I’m not the best. Just because you’re not the most established or the biggest brand, doesn’t mean you can’t be first of all, the better business and doesn’t mean you can’t add more value to your clients.

Now value isn’t just value, it’s also a balance of inputs and outputs, so you could charge less, but provide better service or there’s all these different ways that you can provide value that other people can’t. So the point of this video is, no, you don’t have to be the best. In a world where everyone says you have to be number one, or you have to aim to be the leader in your industry, which is a great thing to strive for, and I think we should all strive for it.

Don’t get disheartened, don’t let it stop you from reaching out and starting conversations, generating leads and growing your business with people on the platform. And just in growing your business in general. Don’t let it stop you, you don’t have to be the best, to have a great business and to make great progress. So just some food for thought, I hope that helps. You can learn more about lead generating and all things B2B from @B2BLeads.com.
